Report

Analytical report · Management report

Examples

Statement of recent transactions of a BancoEstado CuentaRUT account: a structured report with balances, holds, and transaction details (sensitive data redacted; Spanish-language interface).

Description

An output component that extracts, processes, consolidates, and presents information from the system in a structured and meaningful format, oriented toward decision-making. Unlike a simple query, a report applies transformations (calculations, aggregations, summaries) to the data and presents them as a document with a specific purpose.

Mandatory capabilities

Mandatory capabilities
  • Consolidates and processes data through calculations, aggregations, totals, averages, counts, or other analytical operations
  • Presents the information in a structured format with defined sections (header, summary, body, conclusions)
  • Generates the result as a document produced at a specific moment, not as a continuously updated view
  • Has a specific purpose: answering business questions or concrete information needs

Additional capabilities

Additional capabilities
  • User parameterization: lets the user adjust filters, date ranges, level of detail, or other parameters before generating the report
  • Export to multiple formats: generates the result in downloadable formats (PDF, Excel, Word, HTML)
  • Scheduled generation and automatic distribution: the system generates the report on a defined schedule and distributes it automatically to predefined recipients (by email or another channel)
  • Charts and visualizations: incorporates tables, bar charts, trend lines, or other visual elements alongside the text

Boundaries

What it is not
  • Is not Queries: the Report consolidates, calculates, and aggregates information before presenting it; Queries deliver records exactly as they are stored
  • Is not a Dashboard: the Report generates a document produced at a specific moment, designed to be exported and analyzed; the Dashboard is a continuously updated interactive view
  • Is not a notification: notifications communicate specific events; reports present complete analyses of information
  • Does not include capabilities for entering data into the system

Information flow

Input

The user's request to generate the report, together with parameters when that capability is present

→
Output

Structured document with consolidated and processed information, in a viewable or exportable format

Variants

  • Operational report: details recent transactions and activities (e.g., an account statement)
  • Analytical report: presents trends, comparisons, and more in-depth analysis
  • Regulatory report: generated to meet regulatory or legal requirements, with predefined format and content
  • Executive report: high-level summary oriented toward management decision-making

SectionRelationshipNotes
Manual UpdateNoThe user's request and the selection of parameters are transient input used to generate the report; they do not modify persistent data in the system.
Automatic UpdateNo—
Data ConceptsAlwaysThe entities whose data is consolidated and presented in the report.
On-Demand OutputsAlwaysThe document delivered to the user after the request.
Automatic OutputsOptionalAutomatic distribution of the report to predefined recipients, when the scheduled generation capability is present.
Autonomous ProcessesAlwaysCalculations, aggregations, and consolidations applied to the data before presenting it: consolidation is the report's mandatory capability. Autonomous generation of reports under predefined rules, when that capability is present.
